When one thinks of aquarium's, generally downtown Houston is not high on the list of places to go. However, Houston has a fantastic downtown aquarium complete with an underwater train ride through a tunnel surrounded by sharks, a manta ray petting zoo, rides, a Mayan temple for exploring and the "Amazon Rainforest".
It is located behind Bayou Place. If you miss it, you weren't looking. The large Ferris wheel right off of IH 45 is the marker for this magnificent complex. The Ferris wheel allows riders the wonderful view of Houston's downtown skyline.
The aquarium itself has over 200 different species from all over the world with two restaurants inside and an upscale bar. Also located in the Aquarium is the rainforest complete with creatures from the Amazon and a mock up of the Louisiana swamps.
